Day Duty

On duty by ten.

A Miami Beach lifeguard tower in screenprint pop style - flat cyan sky, yellow sand, a pink roof, and a hard black shadow. Halftone dots throughout.

The Story

Miami Beach treats its lifeguard towers as public art. After Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the first of William Lane's colorful towers turned a safety structure into a landmark, and painted stands followed up and down the coast, including the guarded beaches of Palm Beach County. Every tower keeps the same job and the same silhouette; only the colors change. This one gets the full souvenir treatment - cyan sky, yellow sand, and the roof in the brightest pink on the beach.

The Making

  • Built digitally, like a screenprint - flat color shapes in cyan, yellow, and pink, with a halftone dot screen laid over the sky and the tower so the flat color still buzzes.
  • The tower drawn dead level and centered, rails and cross-bracing kept as clean geometry. The only curve on the page is the beach ball on the deck.
  • Shadow dropped in as one hard black shape under the stand - no blur, no gradient - so the tower sits bolted to the sand.

Every print made here heads out into the world: a hallway in Ohio, a kitchen in Oregon, a desk somewhere cold. If this one landed with you, drop a pin and put your town on the map.

It’s printed next to the QR code on the story card that came with your print.

City level only. Your pin shows the town, never your address.
